Federal Laws of Canada Govern Boating

The federal Canada Shipping Act 2001, along with its regulations, governs pleasure craft.

Canada's Criminal Code also applies to boating. Activities such as operating a boat while impaired, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and operating an unseaworthy boat are crimes.

Results of Recent Muskoka-wide Surveys

MLA's partner organization Safe Quiet Lakes (SQL) has conducted comprehensive surveys across Muskoka in 2013, 2017 and 2021 that reveal a downward trend in the quality of the lake experience among respondents and a significant increase in the desire for regulation and enforcement. View SQL's 2021 survey results.
