Michael’s
perspectives of responsible, sustainable economic development and his
experience in engaging a broad base of stakeholders led him to get involved
with the MLA in 2023. He is a Board Director and member of the Community
Engagement Committee. Michael has a
background in finance, having worked at two of Canada’s national banks in
corporate and investment banking in Toronto, and as COO in New York and London.
Most recently, he has been involved in developing countries establishing
strategic plans and economic development programs focusing on job creation and
affordable housing in the Caribbean, Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. He has also advised
the UN Green Climate Fund and the entrepreneurial Capital Development Fund, in
each case bringing an increased focus to the impact analysis and approval of
projects which address the objectives of climate adaptation and mitigation,
small business development, and localized job creation. Growing up, Michael
learned to love the lakes, spending time in Muskoka learning to waterski,
windsurf, and sail. He now owns a cottage on Lake Muskoka. And has yet to
master cooking over charcoal.
