Ken Pearce is a retired corporate/securities lawyer who joined the MLA Board of Directors in July 2021. He is currently a Vice-President and the Secretary and is a member of the Government and Land Use Committee. Ken is also a Director and Secretary of the Friends of Muskoka.
Ken was initially alarmed by the proposal to amend the District of Muskoka Official Plan to permit resorts to be 50% commercial (with only 10 weeks per year in a rental pool) and 50% residential, as opposed to 100% commercial. He delegated before District Council in November, 2017 on this matter and decided to become more involved by joining the boards of the MLA and the Friends.
His parents purchased a cottage in the Kawarthas about 25 years ago, allowing him and his young family to enjoy cottage living. Ken and his wife Brenda decided to purchase an old cottage on Lake Muskoka and arranged for a local contractor to demolish it and build a new one, with Ken doing much of the interior work. They have now retired up to the cottage and are enjoying having their two grandchildren visit.
