Do you have an inboard or inboard/outboard? Run the blower for 4 minutes BEFORE you TOUCH the ignition. Also, sniff for explosive gasoline fumes. 

Prevent "swamping" (water pouring into your boat). Follow the capacity plate that is in your boat. 

Before you head out, check the weather forecast for incoming: 

• Fog
• Heavy clouds (early darkness)
• High winds (dangerous waves)
• Rain 

Bookmark and check the closest marine weather sites:

• Southern Georgian Bay 
• Lake Simcoe

If the weather turns foul, don't try to "outrun" a storm. Head to shore and take cover (such as under an overhang). If there is lightning, DON'T stand under a tree!
