  • Safe Quiet Lakes

In a 2019 survey of MLA members, 58% believe that their uses and enjoyment of the lakes has worsened:

  • 63% because of noisy boats
  • 42% because of waves

Safe Quiet Lakes (SQL) is a valued MLA partner whose Mission is to ensure that the Muskoka Lakes are safer and quieter to enable everyone to enjoy, respect and share this treasured resource.

Three of SQL's key initiatives are:

  • The establishment of a Canada-wide coalition of organizations to reduce unnecessary boat noise (decibels), and
  • Raising awareness in Muskoka about safe speed and boat wakes
  • A comprehensive survey of concerns about safety and noise across Muskoka (2013, 2017 and 2021) that attracted nearly 6,000 respondents in 2021.

Compared to 2013 and 2017, SQL's most recent survey reveals a downward trend in the quality of the lake experience among residents and a significant increase in the desire for regulation and enforcement.
